Follow Me on Pinterest

It may be a surprise to you, but I haven't actually done everything there is to do in Switzerland. I've got a lot on my to-do list. I thought I'd share these with you, in case you need more ideas. So click the button above to follow me on Pinterest and see some of the things I'd like to do.

How do these things get on my list? This is the number one question I get from friends and fans.

#1 - My husband. He is full of good ideas and never reveals his sources ;)

#2 - Friends and strangers. I'm constantly asking people what they did last weekend, where they spent their last vacation, how they are spending a free afternoon. Of course, my first motivation is that I'm genuinely interested in my friends, but they are also a great source of new ideas.

#3 - Promotional materials. I have a huge collection of all the literature I pick up at the TIs and any other place that has brochures sitting out. I have a couple boxes at home organized by Kanton (am I revealing too much?). I comb through the resort maps and brochures to find little gems. Sometimes a great outing is right next door to the one we just did.

#4 - Other websites and blogs. I have a few sites that I use regularly: myswitzerland.ch, wanderland.ch, wandersite.ch, waterfall.ch, map.search.ch, Schweizer Familie especially their Feuerstellen section. I find that none of them give me all the information I'd like to have before setting out. I often feel that I'm flying blind, not sure exactly how to get there or what I'll find once I'm there. So that's why I write this blog.

I'd love to hear your suggestions too! So leave a comment if you have a great idea that hasn't shown up on the blog yet.

  1. Hi Tanya,

Your blog became official guide for us now a days. Thanks for maintaining all information in wonderful way.

I was wondering if blog missed out post for aareschlucht. Usually all our visitors love this place, as it makes lovely day out, combined with boat ride on lake of Brienz.

Also wirzweli can be added list of mountains, as it nice day out with young ones(with pony riding, tobagun runs)

    1. Thanks Shweta! Both of those are on my to do list but it's good to know you liked them. That will move them to higher priority :)

  2. Hi Tanya,

I took my family down to visit Swiss Miniatur (http://www.swissminiatur.ch/) today down in the Lugano region. It's a nice place and the kids really liked it. However, it doesn't warrant a visit on it's own as it isn't really big. I'd say 2 hours is more than enough for this place. If you are coming from Deutsch-Schweiz area to Swiss Miniatur, I'd suggest that you add some other things to your itinerary to make the trek to Ticino really worth it; we went first to one of the Castello's in Bellinzona (a 5 min walk from the station), and then for lunch in Lugano town before heading over to Swiss Miniatur.
