view of Zurich lake from Felsenegg restaurant
Felsenegg is an easy "mountain" outing, only a ten minute drive from Zurich. There's an easy, stroller-friendly ridge trail at the top and a restaurant with a playground and a great view of Zurich lake and alps.

Details. The Felsenegg cable car is located in Adliswil, about a 10 minute drive from Zurich or 10 min walk from the Adliswil train station. Just FYI, your ticket for the cable car is just a regular public transport ticket for zone 50. So you could take the train to Adliswil under the same ticket. The cable car ride is short and runs about every 15 mins, but check the website for details. At the top, you'll exit directly on the Planetenweg ridge trail. Follow the trail to the left/south to reach the Felsenegg restaurant. It's a very short walk, under 10mins on a wide, relatively smooth path, suitable for sturdy strollers.
Alternatively, you can drive to Buchenegg (about 5 mins farther away) and walk to Felsenegg from there, about a 20 min walk.
Felsenegg restaurant patio and tasty "capuns"
The Felsenegg restaurant has a sit-down restaurant and on busy days, a self-service counter serving sausages, cold plates, and snacks. We've eaten there three times and found the food rather average but tasty (and expensive). They have high-chairs (the ones that attach to the table). There's a playground just behind the restaurant so the kids can happily run around before, during and after eating. The restaurant is open all year, even in the snow, and the inside is quite adorable especially when decorated for the holidays.

You have multiple trail options from Felsenegg. One option is to do the loop to Buchenegg and back. We've done this multiple times in summer and winter. Continue walking south on the ridge trail that proceeds from the restaurant. You follow this along the ridge for 20 minutes or so. Right before you reach the Buchenegg restaurant and parking lot, you take the trail to your right and descend a bit, looping back to Felsenegg, passing a few farms and houses are your way. Or you can simply walk back the way you came. With small kids, this will probably take you about an hour. We've built fires and grilled our lunch along this trail, which seems to be quite a popular choice. This trail can be nice all year long, even in winter. But it's especially nice in May when the fields are covered in yellow flowers.

Another option is to walk back the way you came along the Uetliberg Planetenweg. You can walk all the way to Uetliberg if you like and take the train home from there. Or you can walk as far as you like, then back to the Felsenegg gondola.
part of the Planet trail with Uetliberg in the distance
One time we walked about 40 mins towards Uetliberg, stopped at Baldern then continued down the mountain on a different trail toward Leimbach. The trail was very steep and narrow, a little tough for little kids and practically impossible with our stroller. But we made it. At the bottom of the hill (still far from town), there was a farm with a self-service store where we got fresh eggs and yogurt, as well as some handmade ice cream to enjoy along the trail. Our 4yr old walked the entire way (with a few complaints), about 2.5hrs with lots of stops. We enjoyed it but I wouldn't particularly recommend it for little kids.
